Motion Control Industry Still Growing

manufacturing

The Chicago International Manufacturing Technology Show last month had more than 114,000 visitors, not to mention the first car built with 3D printed parts, lots of buzz about the Industrial Internet of Things, and a focus on security in the robotics area.

But the biggest theme at the show was this: “Manufacturing is the place to be!”

Attendees were still talking about the skills gap and the 4th Industrial Revolution, but they were also sharing great numbers. Motion control shipments around the world grew by 6.2% — 8.4% in the second quarter. Motion controller growth in particular has averaged 19% growth quarter over quarter since 2009, so you might think there’s not that much to get excited about at this point.

Not so. A recent report suggests that future growth will continue to increase.

We’re also seeing growth in the U.S. in particular, where industrial automation and robotics are growing alongside a renaissance in manufacturing. The new report suggests that the high cost of motion control systems continue to be the main market challenge for U.S. manufacturers wanting to benefit from increased automation.
