What’s Inside an Indramat Cabinet?

Something’s gone wrong with your Indramat or Rexroth equipment and you’re not sure what to do. Should you open the cabinet? It’s not just like opening up a file cabinet or supply cupboard. You can cause damage just by opening the cabinet if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Cabinets can usually be opened under certain conditions without causing any damage. First, you’ll need to check to see if your Indramat equipment is water or liquid-cooled. If if is, make sure that the temperature inside the cabinet is the same temperature as the ambient temperature outside the cabinet. If there is a big difference between the temperatures, opening the cabinet can cause condensation to occur and could damage your component.

Inside of the cabinet is the servo drive and corresponding parts that connect it to the motor and your machinery you see on the outside. There may be cooling devices like fans that are set up to keep the Indramat drive cool without touching or harming the equipment. Indramat drives are physically fragile things that need to be taken care of properly, which is why they live inside of these locked up cabinets.

The first thing you’ll see might be a manual stored near the door. Some people advised storing manuals inside the cabinets at one time so they always stayed with the equipment. If you can’t find the manual for your Rexroth drive and control systems, checking inside there cabinet can be a good way to find it. We can also send you an Indramat or Rexroth manual for your specific equipment.

Other things you might see inside of the cabinet are wires and cables. All of these obviously send signals to the correct places, but they can fail more often than your drives or servos. We can help you check to make sure that all of your connections are in working order and get you the replacement motor cables necessary if needed.

Rexroth now makes cabinet-free components, but the legacy components still need their cabinets. Sometimes we see a cabinet propped open with a fan blowing dirt and debris into the drive. This is a good way to make sure you have to replace your drive.

When you need service and support for your Rexroth electric drive and control systems — including the legacy Indramat components — call us first. We’ll limit your downtime and get you back up and running fast.
