What’s in an Industrial Motion Control Name?

Indra_deva

Bosch Rexroth makes the best motion control on the planet. If you have older Rexroth electric servo drives, servo motors, and controls, you might be surprised to see the name “Indramat” on them.

Don’t be alarmed. We can provide support, including warrantied factory repair or reman, for your legacy Rexroth motion control components.

When it’s time to upgrade, though, you’ll probably be looking at words like “IndraDrive,” “IndraWorks,” “IndraControl,” “IndraSize,” and “IndraControl.”

What’s going on here?

You might immediately think of Indra, the Hindu weather deity, but that’s not the real story.

“Indramat” is an abbreviation of “Gesellschaft zur INDustrialisierung-RAtionalisierung und AutoMATisierung” which is German for “Association for Industrialization, Rationalization, and Automation.” You can probably see why they’d want to abbreviate that.

Rexroth acquired Indramat in the 1960s, and produced then-revolutionary motion control innovations under that name for decades. Now, Rexroth electric motion control components like the IndraControlL series or the IndraDriveC use the Industrialization and Rationalization part of the original name in memory of the history of this technology.

Whatever kind of Rexroth electric motion control you’re using, we can keep it in tiptop condition for you, or facilitate the upgrade to a newer model if that’s what you need.
